LLDB Python — authorized scripting orientation
LLDB (lldb.llvm.org) supports Python scripting so you can automate repetitive, authorized debugger steps. Use scripts only on processes and binaries you may debug. Start from LLDB overview before this page.
Snapshot
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Surface | LLDB embedded / SB API Python |
| Product start | LLDB overview |
| Choice peer | GDB vs LLDB |
| Static cousin | Ghidra Python |
Allowed framing
- Dumping register/backtrace summaries you already understand into a case binder CSV.
- Replaying the same breakpoint/watch checklist across a student-compiled corpus.
- Teaching students to keep scripts short, reviewed and version-pinned with the LLDB/LLVM build.
Scope we will not cover
- No crack/keygen generators disguised as "LLDB scripts."
- No DRM or license-check defeat recipes.
- No anti-anti-debug cookbooks.
- No keychain, password-store or token theft via debugger scripts.
Beginner path (authorized only)
- Finish LLDB overview on a binary you compiled.
- Open the LLDB Python surface; run a read-only listing (frames/modules) and save output beside the SHA-256.
- Prefer scripts that only export Evidence over scripts that patch memory for piracy.
- If the class is GDB-centric, read GDB vs LLDB instead of forcing LLDB Python.
- For static automation cousins see Ghidra Python — still authorized-only.
- Use LLDB Python to automate repeatable authorized debugger work.
- Prefer overview + GDB/LLDB choice pages before scripting rabbit holes.
- Refuse crack, DRM-bypass, anti-anti-debug and credential-theft framing.
For legal, authorized and educational use only.
FAQ
How is this different from lldb-overview-authorized?
LLDB overview is the debugger product orientation. This page is Python scripting posture — when to automate, what to pin and what not to script.
LLDB Python vs GDB Python?
Both expose Python helpers; APIs differ. If your course is GDB-first see GDB vs LLDB / LLDB vs GDB. Do not paste GDB Python into LLDB and assume it works.
Do I need Python to use LLDB?
No. Finish LLDB overview first. Add Python only when you repeat the same inspection on many authorized samples.
Can scripts talk to the network or dump keychains?
Treat network-capable or credential-touching scripts as out of scope for beginner labs unless your org reviews them. Prefer local Evidence writes under the case directory. No keychain/token theft framing.
Does this teach anti-anti-debug or crack workflows?
No. Authorized debugging and education only — no crack/keygen, DRM bypass or anti-anti-debug cookbooks.
