Quick answer

Ghidra scripting helps automate annotation and enumeration on programs you are authorized to analyze. Use these tips beside Ghidra Python and ghidra-scripts-overview.

Tip checklist (authorized only)

  1. Pin and record the exact Ghidra build before any script run.
  2. Work only on programs/DBs your authorization covers; hash inputs.
  3. Prefer small reviewed scripts over opaque "universal unpack" pastes.
  4. Quote APIs from your install's Help/Javadoc — do not invent calls.
  5. Export renames/comments/CSV as Evidence with timestamps.
  6. Keep headless batch jobs inside lab policy and case directories.

Allowed framing

  • Bulk-renaming functions on courseware binaries.
  • Enumerating imports/strings into authorized lab reports.
  • Teaching students to read Ghidra API docs before coding.
  • Comparing Ghidra scripting with IDA Python as a syllabus choice.

Scope we will not cover

  • No license crack / keygen scripts.
  • No DRM-bypass or unpack-for-piracy cookbooks.
  • No anti-anti-debug script packs.
  • No exploit PoC generators.

Beginner path (authorized only)

  1. Install Ghidra from the official channel; record the version.
  2. Open an authorized training binary; save the project under case control.
  3. Run one syllabus-approved script (or a short self-written enumerator).
  4. Diff notes before/after; keep scripts hashed in the case repo.
  5. For API maps see ghidra-python-overview.
Which to pick
  • Treat this as hygiene tips, not a substitute for Ghidra Help/API docs.
  • Authorized databases only — no crack or exploit framing.

For legal, authorized and educational use only.

FAQ

How is this different from ghidra-python-overview / ghidra-scripts-overview?

Those pages are orientation maps. This page is a short hygiene checklist for authorized automation — it does not overwrite either overview.

Java scripts vs Python in Ghidra?

Both exist depending on your Ghidra build. Prefer the language your syllabus and installed API docs support; record the Ghidra version beside every script run.

Can scripts unlock paid IDA features or crack licenses?

No. BinBench will not publish crack/keygen or cross-tool license bypass recipes.

Headless scripting?

Headless is powerful for batch labs — only on binaries you may analyze. See also ghidra-python-overview for API surface orientation.

Does this teach exploit automation?

No. Authorized annotation/enumeration only — no exploit PoCs.
